    Experience the “Gratitude Remix” of “Ain’t No Substitute”: lush Detroit soul meets a deeper, groove-led reconstruction in this brand-new release from Honoré.

    Blending 70s super soul in the tradition of Ashford & Simpson with a stripped-back, Salsoul-inspired groove – where classic craftsmanship meets modern soul renaissance…a loving reconstruction of all the available talent, remixed by Estonian wunderkind Martin Laksberg (Lexsoul Dance Machine, Rita Ray, Reti).

    Where the original dazzles in full orchestral splendour, Laksberg rebuilds from the ground up: a minimalist first chorus that lets the song breathe and Honoré’s vocal command the space, before the lush second pre-chorus arrives in all its glory – strings, brass, and the full Detroit Soulchestra pressing in like sunlight through a cracked window. The groove has the sophisticated funk of the Nu Yorican school; a jazzy mid-section monologue adds cool introspection before the track opens into a euphoric EWF-style harmonic finale. Sweet soul and beautiful funk, all in one.

    The talent behind the record is formidable. Maurice “Pirahnahead” Herd – Detroit native and protégé of legendary arranger Paul Riser – produced and arranged the original, conducting his 18-piece Detroit Soulchestra with characteristic authority. Toronto-based co-producer Thomas McKay brings his own pedigree: a member of UK hitmakers the Nightcrawlers, he knows a groove when he hears one. Laksberg, for his part, knows exactly which threads to pull.

    The remix arrives ahead of Honoré’s next Soul Jones Records 7” single “We’re Still Making Love”, due shortly, with her debut album scheduled for summer 2026.
